Calor has put the glow back into the village of Red Row, Northumbria. Following years of neglect, the local welfare ground has been reborn with a new floodlit, all-weather sports area comprising football pitches, tennis and netball courts.
And at the heart of this new leisure facility is a new 300-sq metre, gull-roofed pavilion with heating and hot water provided by Lochinvar LPG boilers and water heaters. The Calor LPG powered system was recommended by consulting engineers Taylor Design Partnership who chose it over oil-powered rivals for both cost and environmental safety reasons.
Robert Kirkland (Blyth) Ltd carried out the design, supply and installation of the boiler and water heaters to a project brief prepared by Taylor Design. Jim McGlen, of Kirkland, selected the appliances and type of fuel in part due to the strength of Kirkland’s relationship with Lochinvar and Calor, their reliability of service and the fact that LPG is cleaner than oil.
The system so impressed Taylor Design that Calor LPG powered systems are now seriously under consideration for two of their other projects.
"We discovered we could make a 20 per cent saving on the capital costs of the boilers and water
heaters – about £4,000 – by using LPG equipment. This was a saving of about 8 per cent on the
entire heating and hot water budget." Richard Taylor, Taylor Design Partnership
